WordUp Addis is a charity working with street kids in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Run by the fantastic Cathy Burton the organisation provides a educational drop in centre for some of the thousands of kids who have no access to formal education. The aim is to provide IT, English, Art, Music, Literacy and Ethiopian history teaching, materials and equipment.
One of the things that’s so great about WordUp Addis is its grassroots DIY ethic. Cathy and the others working with her in Addis have done this all themselves with no help from any big charities or development agencies. Its great when people see a problem and then respond to it through positive action!
WordUp Addis have been putting on a number of music events to raise money for the project. This took place at the Wildman in Norwich, was a great day for sure, and featured Ruth Gordon from Cakes and Ale and Adrian Howes (who you might have seen busking around Norwich) amongst others…
Great to take some photos at such a great event. I’m always willing to come to charity events or help with photography for grassroots, DIY projects with a purpose.
