Holkham is amazing. I few years ago (quite a few now!), a few months after finishing my degree, I went up to Holkham and took a load of photos on my old 35mm 1970s Nikon FM. At the time I was using the dark room at Norwich Arts Centre (my friend Polly has an exhibition there at the mo, check it out…) so I spent a few days up there developing the film and printing the photos. I then made a load of mounts and even made some black wooden frames. Armed with my peddlers licence I set off into Norwich city centre to make loads of money selling all these prints. In about 8 hours I sold perhaps two prints! But hey this is DIY living, at least I had a load of Christmas presents.
Anyway, I don’t think I had been up to Holkham for ages until we went a couple of weeks ago with the boys and had such a great time, there were even some really big waves (for Norfolk) and we had some fun with the body board! So I was very please to be able to take my camera up there again for this shoot with Ritchie, Izzy and their dog Jaffa. It was Ritchie’s birthday and he wanted to get some photos with Izzy (now she’s flown the nest) and Jaffa (who’s getting on a bit…). The morning was so unbelievably sunny it was a bit unfortunate that it turned rather grey, but not too unfortunate for me because I absolutely love the grey / blue / purple of the moody skies and soft, uncontrasty light!
It did rain a bit, it looked like it might rain a lot, but we were lucky – got back to the cars avoiding any major deluge, just enough time for some chips and a pint in the lovely Wells-next-the-Sea.
Gotta love Norfolk! Where else do you get such amazing beaches so peaceful and empty and yet so close to the bustling metropolis that is Norwich?…
